at Stearn's Wharf, built by John Stearn in 1872.
You'll pass the California Hotel and Santa Barbara's train
station featuring the Moreton Bay Fig Tree, which
is the largest fig tree in the United States and is 130
years old. You'll visit the Santa Barbara Courthouse
and be invited to climb (or take the elevator) to the clock
tower, featuring one of the most beautiful views of the
city. You'll also see the Santa Barbara Presidio,
a military fort built in 1782. You'll visit the location
of the Lobero Theater, which opened in 1873 as the
first legitimate opera house south of San Francisco. It
is California's oldest continually operated theater. You'll
see the original film studios for the American Film Company,
which was larger than Holywood during the era of silent
film making. Stars such as Charlie Chaplin and Fatty Arbuckle
were involved in productions here. You'll enjoy a stop at
the Santa Barbara Mission, originally built in 1786.
The present version of the church was built in 1820 after
successive earthquakes destroyed the former one. You'll
pass the Riviera Theater and the Montecito Country Club,
where Andrew Firestone serves as membership director. Next
you'll visit Montecito, one of the wealthiest communties
in the United States and home to many famous celebraties
such as Oprah, Steve Martin, John Cleese, Rob Lowe, Christopher
Lloyd, Troy Aikmen, Steven Spielberg, Kevin Costner, Kurt
Douglas, Michael Douglas, Dennis Miller, Ellen Degeneres,
Ty Warner, Jeff Bridges, and more. You'll see the Montecito
Inn which was built by Charlie Chaplin and Fatty Arbuckle.
You can see Charlie Chaplin's face just below the hotel
name on the sign. Finally we'll visit Hope Ranch,
where the surf truly meets the turf. Hope Ranch was designed
for the rich and famous to have horse ranches with ocean
